The Story of our library began in 2016 with a modest collection of 150 books donated from personal family collections. From the beginning there was one clear vision – to instill a genuine love of reading in the children of Life School.
On August 1st, 2025, we had the wonderful privilege of dedicating a library of over 1,000 books in both English and Manipuri. Our collection of books includes fiction, non fiction, spiritual/ moral, reference materials and magazines. Fiction titles are categorized into four reading levels to help guide students in their reading.
These books have traveled from different corners of the world – from America, various parts of India, and right here in Manipur. Each of these books has been carefully selected having our students in mind.
Building a Reading Culture
Setting up a library alone is not enough. We are creating a reading culture through our reading program integrated through our spoken English classes. Through reading sessions in class, dedicated library time, and learning to write book reports, children are encouraged to actively explore and enjoy the wide variety of books available to them.
Library Launch Program
We were thrilled to launch our new library with a special celebration. We invited parents to join us as Life School children presented skits & performances about the importance of reading.
Families were given a tour of the Library to see the resources available to their children.
Thanks and Appreciation
The Library Project has come to life through the tireless efforts of a committed team working behind the scenes. For nearly six months, this dedicated group – led by Indira (USA), together with Mrs. Kalaivani, Dr. Djanakirame, Mrs. Prema, and Mrs. Leela from South India, as well as Mr. Ambition and Pr. Jonathan from Manipur – carefully researched and acquired quality educational materials for the library. We are deeply grateful to our research and execution team for their invaluable contributions to this endeavor. We are also thankful to our volunteers Rohan, Galina and Anika who helped with sorting, labeling and cataloging in different stages of the project. We also express our gratitude to Life School Director Mr. Joji for his support in facilitating the expansion and enhancement of the Library room to accommodate our growing collection.
Our heartfelt thanks also go to the donors and well-wishers who invested in this project and in the lives of the children of Life School. A special note of appreciation to Mrs. Vasantha Jairam (retired school principal) and her daughters Aarti and Sangeetha for selecting and purchasing high-quality books from Higginbothams – some of our finest reference materials are from this collection. We are deeply grateful to NGO Wasted 360 Solutions (indiawasted.com) for their generous contribution of books that have significantly enriched our library collection. Additionally, we extend our appreciation to Mrs. Jeanne (USA) for her thoughtful contribution of a magazine collection, providing children with engaging and diverse reading materials they truly enjoy. We are equally grateful to Mr Velan, Mr Balaji Sadagopan (of Chai Kings), Mr Yuvarajan and others from the 1995 Batch of SBOA for their generous support. Our sincere thanks also to Mrs. Geetha Manoj and Mrs. B Geetha for their valuable contributions.
Looking Forward
As we celebrate this milestone, we know that this is just the beginning. We believe the Library will greatly enhance the quality of education and instill greater confidence in the children at Life School. We invite our children to come explore, discover, and let their love of reading grow.
