The School year started off with a big bang – 92 students enrolled in the 2020 school year. We had many returning students, and a few new faces in the crowd.
Kakching Life School is not your average boarding school. School staff follow a very specific recruitment process. They travel to remote villages along the India-Myanmar border to identify under privileged children who fit the school criteria. Once a child has been identified as fitting one of these criteria, paperwork is filed with the local government before they can be officially admitted.

As the pandemic hit, the school doors had to be closed based on Government regulations for Manipur. Many urban schools in India have implemented distance learning and online classes. Unfortunately, this is not an option for Life School as most of our children live in the remote border areas of India – Myanmar and do not have any connectivity.
In the meantime, our residential staff are at the school and we continue to maintain the roster of all our teaching staff, for when the school re-opens. We are also planning on how to safely induct the children back into the school, when the shut down order lifts.

During the downtime, we were able to get a new concrete floor for the school chapel. Previously this 4,900 sq. ft. floor was comprised of mud and dust; often resulting in kids with runny noses and sinus irritation. Our new chapel floor will not only cut down on sneezes, but will last for many years to come!
